A mineral is a characteristic chemical composition, crystal form, and physical properties. There are five criteria for minerals: minerals are solid; naturally-occuring; inorganic, or should not belong to any class of organic compound; minerals have fixed chemical formula; and the last criteria is that minerals have a specific atomic structure. We were also able to identify if the spherical things were minerals or not. Ans we also discussed the different structures of minerals and the physical properties of minerals.
It is very refreshing to study this kind of lesson. It´s amazing that even if we can´t see the different minerals in person, it´s refreshing to see or to study them even just in pictures. There are many different types and structures of minerals, and by studying them, I learned something other than what I already knew about them. And we are studying this because we are increasingly dependent on mineral materials to create products that support our way of life, our health, and the global economy.
